Red Tape Puts Miss Toronto Ferry Relief Plan In Irons

Terry Turl saw his plan as a win-win. The captain of the Miss Toronto luxury boat sought to pick up passengers waiting in long queues for a ferry to the Toronto Island. He wanted to relieve the lineups for the city-run ferries and net a tidy profit.

But on Victoria Day, the city put the kibosh on his operation, according to the Toronto Star. Turl wasn’t allowed to use the docks to set sail or drop off passengers. The docks are not designated for private vessels.

Turl’s attempts to obtain the necessary permits have come to naught, as the City does not yet have regulations in place to regulate private vessels — including water taxis — delivering passengers to the Islands.
