A challenging Continuing Profession Development (CPD) event slated for October will provide licensees with substantive information relevant across a broad range of practice.

George Brown, CEO of George Brown Professional Corporation, and Director and Secretary of the Ontario Paralegal Network, says the all-day Raising the Bar Substantially CPD starts with an in-depth analysis of contract law.

“Contract is large part of the paralegal scope of practice,” Brown notes. “It applies to everything from small claims court to Landlord and Tenant Board. We feel that it is essential that all paralegals have an understanding of contract law.”

Several former Deputy Judges, a Deputy Judge, and high-profile licensees are among the speakers.

Sponsored by Tripemco Burlington Insurance and presented by CPD On Time, Raising the Bar takes place Saturday, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Cost is $150 for an in-person spot and $100 for the webinar. Good afternoon Elizabeth, I am wondering if the CPD is reserved to Licensees only or People who are in the process to become Paralegals? Thank you!

    1. George Brown says the course is not reserved for licensed paralegals only. “In fact, we have just set up a portal for different colleges to enroll their students.” Here is the link:

Bought my ticket, eagerly anticipate this cpd. I LOVED the 2 Canadian Contract Law quizzes! Was that George’s idea? Or yours Elizabeth? Fantastic.

Am embarrassed to publicize my results but this shows me what questions I need answered at the cpd. Another great OPN event – looking forward as always!

    1. Thanks for the feedback, Tracey. The contract law quizzes pre-date Paralegal SCOPE. They serve as primers. Of the people who have provided comments, most say their results let them know that could use a refresher — for example, the upcoming CPD. A couple of experienced lawyers and paralegals have said the quizzes are too basic and easy. So, like Goldilocks testing-out oatmeal and beds, it could be said that the Quiz difficulty level is “just right.”
