A B.C. Superior Court has ruled that former Leafs general manager, Brian Burke, can notify defendants via social media. Representative Robert Grant, of Heenan Blaikie LLP, made the submission in B.C. Supreme Court on Tuesday, the Toronto Star reports.
Burke’s legal team intends to use online message boards to serve 18 anonymous defendants. The emails will include a link to a website where the notice of claim is posted.
Other avenues to identify and notify the defendants in the claim have been stymied, Burke’s legal team told the court. The defamation suit was filed in April.
