In less than two weeks, CanLII Connects, a new project from the free online legal research provider, is already making it easier for people to get useful legal information when they need it. Since CanLII Connect’s public launch April 4, engagement with the site has outpaced the organization’s expectations.
CanLII Connects was created to make it faster and easier for legal professionals and the public to access high-quality legal commentary on Canadian court decisions.
Anyone can access the site, but prospective contributors must demonstrate an ability to create viable legal analysis. Paralegal SCOPE Magazine was among the first publishers asked to contribute content to the new service and will continue to add to the 30,000 or so articles already available.
Statistics released today:
- 286 registered members, with another 66 applications under review
- More than 100 new summaries and commentaries added by a great mix of new and existing publishers
- Between 500 and 1,000 visits a day from a total of more than 2,500 unique visitors
- Average site visit of nearly five minutes
CanLII CEO Colin Lachance calls the early stats, “Not bad for the first 11 days of a site built around a new way of sharing legal information” and notes that CanLII hopes to add more interactivity to the project over the coming months.
Lachance says contributors, including SCOPE and its writers, demonstrate leadership in the legal community through participating in a venture designed to improve access to understanding and access to justice.
