Newly licensed paralegals attended a reception held in their honour at the Law Society of Upper Canada, Wednesday evening.

Speaking to the new paralegals and other guests, Treasurer Thomas Conway summed-up the Law Society’s support for the profession.

“The justice system is the embodiment of the rule of law,” he said. “We not only want you to succeed, we need you to succeed.”

CEO Robert Lapper and Cathy Corsetti, chair of the Paralegal Standing Committee, outlined some of the services available to the newest paralegals. These include Continuing Professional Development courses, the Referral Service and Member Assistance Program.

Corsetti introduced Law Society officers, staff, benchers and some key members of two professional associations: the Paralegal Society of Ontario and Licensed Paralegals Association. The two organizations are in talks to amalgamate and create one voice to represent licensed paralegals in the province.

She also introduced Paralegal SCOPE Magazine to the crowd and encouraged support for all such initiatives that promote the best of the paralegal profession.
