CanLII — Canadian Legal Information Institute, a non-profit organization created and funded by 14 member provincial and territorial organizations within the Federation of Law Societies. It is part of an international Free Access to Law movement.

Its mission is simple: Free access to law. Its goals: 1) Meet public interest in free and unrestricted access to legal information; and 2) Satisfy legal community needs with a free, comprehensive and robust legal research service.

When it started in 2001, CanLII comprised one legislative and 18 case law collections. As it prepares to revamp its website, CanLII’s 200 databases include about one million documents, both legislation and case law.
