Ontario is combining Emergency Management Ontario and the Office of the Fire Marshal into one organization — the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management — which will promote safer communities.
The new Office will be housed at the state-of-the-art Forensic Services and Coroner’s Complex in Toronto, slated to open this fall in the Downsview neighbourhood.
Front-line services will not be affected by the change, according to the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. The office will deliver fire safety and emergency management programs and services, in conjunction with municipalities. It will provide expert advice and help with response efforts in emergencies and will be led by Ted Wieclawek, Fire Marshal of Ontario.
Charges laid under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997, S.O. 1997, c. 4, are prosecuted under the Provincial Offences Act.
